It sets out\n        where our figures come from, how each one is labelled by source, how often we update, what our\n        data cannot tell you, and how we correct mistakes. Every research page on this site follows\n        these standards and links back here.\n      <\/p>\n      <p class=\"updated\">Last updated <time datetime=\"2026-08-19\">19 August 2026<\/time>. Version 1.0.<\/p>\n\n      <h2>Principles<\/h2>\n      <p>Four principles guide everything we publish.<\/p>\n      <ul class=\"plain\">\n        <li><strong>Traceable.<\/strong> Every figure can be traced to a source, and the source is named or described.<\/li>\n        <li><strong>Labelled.<\/strong> Every figure is marked by how we obtained it, so you can weigh it accordingly.<\/li>\n        <li><strong>Consistent.<\/strong> We use the same method each period, so trends stay comparable over time.<\/li>\n        <li><strong>Corrected in the open.<\/strong> When we get something wrong, we fix it and say so.<\/li>\n      <\/ul>\n\n      <h2 id=\"labels\">How figures are labelled<\/h2>\n      <p>\n        Every number in our tables carries one of four labels. The label tells you how the figure was\n        obtained, which matters as much as the figure itself.\n      <\/p>\n      <div class=\"labels\">\n        <div class=\"row\">\n          <dt>Official<\/dt>\n          <dd>Taken from an official source such as a government agency, regulator or central bank. Example: fuel prices from the Petroleum Fund, or inflation from the Bureau of Statistics.<\/dd>\n        <\/div>\n        <div class=\"row\">\n          <dt>Observed<\/dt>\n          <dd>Counted directly by Data Matrix from a public source on the date shown. Example: a Facebook page&#8217;s follower count read from the page itself.<\/dd>\n        <\/div>\n        <div class=\"row\">\n          <dt>Reported<\/dt>\n          <dd>Provided by the organisation being measured and not yet independently verified. Example: a newsroom&#8217;s circulation figure, or a station&#8217;s own follower count. We use these where no observed figure is available, and replace them once we can verify them.<\/dd>\n        <\/div>\n        <div class=\"row\">\n          <dt>Estimated<\/dt>\n          <dd>A Data Matrix estimate, used only where no official, observed or reported figure exists. It is based on the best comparable data available and is always the weakest of the four.<\/dd>\n        <\/div>\n      <\/div>\n\n      <h2>Sources<\/h2>\n      <p>We separate two kinds of source and lean on the first wherever possible.<\/p>\n      <h3>Primary sources<\/h3>\n      <p>\n        Data we gather ourselves: prices recorded at the point of sale, counts read directly from public\n        pages, and figures supplied to us by the organisations we measure. Interviews and direct requests\n        to newsrooms and stations fall here too.\n      <\/p>\n      <h3>Secondary sources<\/h3>\n      <p>\n        Data published by others, such as official statistics agencies, regulators, central banks and\n        established industry lists. We name these where we rely on them and, where more than one exists,\n        we cross-check them against each other rather than trusting a single figure.\n      <\/p>\n\n      <h2>Collection and updates<\/h2>\n      <p>\n        Each research page states its own update cadence, usually monthly or quarterly, and carries the\n        date it was last updated. We keep the same definitions and method from one period to the next so\n        the series stays comparable. When a figure changes, the page&#8217;s release history records what moved.\n      <\/p>\n\n      <h2>Estimates and self-reported figures<\/h2>\n      <p>\n        Where a subject reports its own numbers, we label them Reported and treat them with caution,\n        because organisations have an interest in their own figures. Where we must estimate, we label the\n        figure Estimated and say so plainly. We never present an estimate or a self-reported figure as if\n        it were an independently observed one.\n      <\/p>\n\n      <h2>Limitations<\/h2>\n      <p>Our data has real limits, and naming them is part of using it well.<\/p>\n      <ul class=\"plain\">\n        <li>Social media counts change constantly and cannot always be pulled live from a platform without direct access.<\/li>\n        <li>Some pages combine more than one channel or brand, which can lift a total above a like-for-like comparison. We note this where it applies.<\/li>\n        <li>Official releases for Lesotho are sometimes delayed or revised, so a recent figure may change in a later update.<\/li>\n        <li>Where organisations share related operations, their audiences may overlap in ways a single figure cannot separate.<\/li>\n      <\/ul>\n\n      <h2 id=\"corrections\">Corrections policy<\/h2>\n      <div class=\"note\">\n        <p>\n          We aim to be accurate, and we correct errors promptly. If you believe a figure is wrong, email\n          <a href=\"mailto:corrections@datamatrix.co.ls\">corrections@datamatrix.co.ls<\/a> with the page and\n          the figure in question.\n        <\/p>\n        <p>\n          When we confirm an error, we correct the page, update its last-updated date, and record any\n          material correction in that page&#8217;s release history. Small fixes such as spelling are made without\n          a note. Corrections that change a figure or a ranking are always logged.\n        <\/p>\n      <\/div>\n\n      <h2>Changes to this methodology<\/h2>\n      <ul class=\"plain\">\n        <li><strong>Version 1.0, 19 August 2026.<\/strong> First published.
